SUMMER FRIDAYS

At the discretion of the President, a decision will be made annually to provide an adjusted schedule for full time staff employees during the summer months. If the President approves Summer Fridays, employees will have the opportunity for dismissal on designated Fridays, without any reduction in pay.

In all cases, the needs of our students and internal and external campus communities must continue to be served in an exemplary fashion.

SUMMER 2025

Father Peter has graciously decided that ÄÌÌÇÖ±²¥ University will have a four-day work week this summer. This is his way of showing continued appreciation for all of staff and faculty efforts. Note: If your area or department requires an on-campus presence on Fridays, the individuals who work Friday should be given another day off that week.

The Fridays affected in 2025 are all Fridays from May 16th until August 15th.

May 16th, 23rd, 30th

June 6th,13th, 20th, 27th

July 11th, 18th, 25th

August 1st, 8th, 15th

OFFICE COVERAGE

Should operational requirements necessitate coverage in an office on the designated Fridays, staff must provide coverage as directed by the supervisor.  These employees will be provided an alternative days off, at a time designated by their supervisor.  For example, an employee who is required to work on a Friday could be offered the alternative of taking off a Tuesday.

For the University’s 24/7 operations, such as Public Safety, Facilities and Conference Services, where Friday off may not be feasible relative to shift coverage or seasonal requirements, the Summer Fridays, if not in conflict with operational needs, may be provided to the employee at another time within the calendar year. Summer Fridays cannot be rolled over into the next calendar year.

Supervisors should arrange for coverage for their offices as necessary in a way that does not result in overtime expenses.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The number of hours will vary depending on whether an employee works a 35 hour or a 40 hour workweek. The time provided for these Fridays is not considered vacation time; therefore, the time does not accumulate nor is it paid out when an employee leaves the University.

Employees who call out sick on any of the Fridays where they are scheduled to work, will be required to take a full sick day. In addition, for the time that you are on an approved leave from the University, Summer Fridays do not apply.

Part time employees are not eligible to participate in this program. Employees on a 9, 10 or 11-month schedule may participate if they work during the time when the program is in effect.
