ÄÌÌÇÖ±²¥ University is committed to providing faculty with the resources needed to develop their research. A critical aspect of securing funding to support your scholarly work is finding appropriate funding sources. These can range from internal grants to federal sources, private foundations or cultivating corporate relationships.

INTERNAL FUNDING

The below internal funding programs are offered by VIRS, the ÄÌÌÇÖ±²¥ Institute for Research and Scholarship. Additional information can be found on the VIRS Internal Funding Opportunities page:

The UNITAS Faculty Research Program supports scholarly research that focuses on issues related to diversity, equity and inclusion. In particular, this program supports research that responds to the goals of diversity outlined in the ÄÌÌÇÖ±²¥ University Diversity Statement. The program is administered jointly by VIRS and the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Read more

The VERITAS Faculty Research Program supports scholarly research that takes inspiration from and/or reflects the values of ÄÌÌÇÖ±²¥ University's Catholic and Augustinian heritage. The program is administered jointly by VIRS and the Office of Mission and Ministry. Read more

The University Summer Grant (USG) Program provides support to faculty to engage in research, scholarly activities and creative artistic projects. Overarching goals of the USG program are to foster the intellectual development of faculty and to facilitate faculty efforts to achieve national and international recognition in their scholarly field. The University Conference Travel Grant (UCTG) Program is intended to augment, but not supplant, existing support for faculty travel to present their work at appropriate venues available through Departments, Colleges, Centers and Institutes. The UCTG Program will consider proposals from full-time faculty only when alternative sources of travel support (for example, external grant funding, Department, College, Center or Institute travel support) are not available. The Small Research Grant (SRG) Program aims to encourage faculty to establish and maintain programs of research and/or creative activity by offering awards of up to $5,000 for research related expenses.

In Fall 2022, VIRS will pilot its Research Catalyst Grant (RCG) with a limited number of awards of up to $35,000. The program supports new, interdisciplinary, collaborative projects that have the potential to grow into high impact endeavors and which can become self-sustaining through new external funding. RCG awards are intended for project initiation activities and pilots to test a proof of concept.

The below internal funding programs are administered by Falvey Library.

The Subvention of Publication Program is intended to support faculty in the publication of books and/or monographs that are of significant scholarly value, whether the prospective audience may be broad or somewhat limited. The program is especially interested in supporting works of the highest academic quality, which have been accepted at university or other outstanding presses that are highly selective in what they publish. The Scholarship Open Access Reserve (SOAR) Fund stems from Falvey Library's commitment to supporting open access publishing. This program is designed to provide financial support to members of the ÄÌÌÇÖ±²¥ community who are interested in publishing high quality open access publications. Visit the to learn more.

 

 

EXTERNAL FUNDING

The University has curated a growing list of resources to help researchers begin thinking about where to seek support that makes sense for their needs.

ÄÌÌÇÖ±²¥ University has engaged Thorn Run Partners (TRP), a leading higher education consulting firm, to provide grant writing assistance to select, high-potential research projects. The Office of Grants and Contracts works with investigators during submission of sponsored project proposals on behalf of the University. The Office negotiates and executes various types of research agreements, provides sponsored projects education and communication, and assists with proper stewardship of research funds awarded to the University. Led by experienced academics in partnership with research support professionals across the University, the ÄÌÌÇÖ±²¥ Institute for Research and Scholarship facilitates faculty, post-doctoral fellows and graduate student success at all stages of research, scholarship and creative endeavor. CONSORTIUM MEMBERSHIPS

ÄÌÌÇÖ±²¥ has consortium partnerships and opportunities with the following institutes:

As an associate  member, ÄÌÌÇÖ±²¥ students and faculty will have  to , , travel grants, science and technology events, high-performance computing and collaborative opportunities. Faculty and staff will have opportunities to work with national laboratories, federal agencies, educational and governmental entities, as well as participate in knowledge-strengthening competitions, and interactions with scientific leaders that will enhance faculty and students’ professional growth.

In 2017, ÄÌÌÇÖ±²¥ became a member of . Faculty and students can participate in scientific poster sessions connecting them to the PA life science industry, and other Life Science PA .

In 2018, ÄÌÌÇÖ±²¥ joined as a consortium member of the . Since joining, several students have participated in Undergraduate Research Workshops, and faculty members have received summer faculty fellowships through the McNeil Center.
