The ÄÌÌÇÖ±²¥ Institute for Research and Scholarship (VIRS) offers professional development programs and resources that promote a vital research culture in which faculty, post-doctoral fellows, and doctoral students are empowered to pursue their scholarly and creative aspirations sustainably over their careers.
We offer inclusive support for ÄÌÌÇÖ±²¥'s scholars and their varied forms, methods and traditions of inquiry. Our programs aim to promote substantive, multidisciplinary engagement across the University’s colleges, departments and centers.
Our approach is shaped by ÄÌÌÇÖ±²¥â€™s Augustinian Catholic ideals of Veritas, Unitas, Caritas (Truth, Unity, Love). We are committed to the goals of diversity outlined in the ÄÌÌÇÖ±²¥ University Diversity Statement.

Effective Grantsmanship Program December 4-6
VIRS is pleased to offer a new program designed to enhance your success in seeking and securing external funding. The program includes four standalone skill-centered, workshops and offers opportunities for private consultations with a Thorn Run grant expert.
Learn the Practice of Research Pipelining
Developing and charting a satisfying scholarly trajectory involves 'thinking big' about one's intellectual and professional development while remaining grounded in the everyday tasks of current projects and responsibilities. Research pipelining is a technique to help you strike that balance.
Faculty Write-In Days
Writing alongside others socializes what can otherwise often be an isolating endeavor. Join faculty from across disciplines for a day or half-day of scheduled writing.
