Dr. Christina Whitehouse Selected as Fellow of the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists
Christina R. Whitehouse, PhD, AGPCNP-BC, CDCES, FADCES will be inducted as a Fellow of the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists at the organization’s annual conference in August 2022. ADCES Fellows are a distinguished group of diabetes care and education specialists that are recognized for outstanding contributions to diabetes care and education through clinical practice, research, education or health policy, according to the group’s .
“This is a well-deserved honor. Dr. Whitehouse has distinguished herself in the areas of diabetes science, care and education. She weaves her passion through every aspect of her career,” says Donna S. Havens, PhD, RN, FAAN, Connelly Endowed Dean.
As a young girl, Dr. Whitehouse saw her grandfather living with diabetes and the severe health challenges that brought, along with witnessing the care her family provided to him. “Seeing his experience and the challenges our family faced gave me the desire to enter into a career as a nurse, with a specific interest to improve care for older adults living with diabetes,” she recalls.
Dr. Whitehouse has honored her goal with both her dissertation and post-doctoral fellowship focused on diabetes and geriatrics. She has several funded grants for her work and nine peer reviewed publications to date, with multiple conference abstracts and invited lectures on the topic. Dr. Whitehouse also reviews manuscripts for multiple diabetes-related journals, has held numerous positions in ADCES including research chair, and advises ֱ University’s student chapter of the College Diabetes Network.
Certified as an adult-gerontological primary care nurse practitioner and diabetes care and education specialist, Dr. Whitehouse focuses her advanced practice in this specialty. She implemented the Transitional Care Model within a large academic institution focusing on care delivery and coordination for older adults living with chronic conditions, including diabetes. She has provided diabetes education and assisted patients living with diabetes and their families with the transition from hospital to home. She continues to support individuals living with diabetes and obesity in her clinical practice.
