Senior Lauren Munter received the Meyer Innovation and Creative Excellence (ICE) Award April 30th at a ceremony in Connelly Center.
Nominated by mentor Dr. Elizabeth Dowdell, Lauren was cited for, among other accomplishments, 鈥渒een insight and creativity in her work with the University Nursing Senate (UNS) and on research teams."
Dr. Dowdell further explains in her nomination, "Lauren Munter has been an innovator at the College of Nursing since her first year at 奶糖直播...From UNS Lauren moved into 奶糖直播 student government with a successful election and is the first nurse to be an active SGA member in over six years."
Lauren鈥檚 creativity and leadership skills can also be seen through the lens of research. In 2017, she joined a team examining unintentional toddler gun deaths where she took on an active role in data collection, analysis, and her presenting the team鈥檚 poster at 奶糖直播 and Johns Hopkins University conferences.
In spring 2018, the then-junior student received the College's Davis Family Summer funding out of a class of 96 eligible students and completed her own project. As the Davis Scholar, Lauren鈥檚 proposal of investigating the influence of parental actions on adolescent health risk behaviors was the only study selected. "It is important to note that her proposal was different from the others submitted because it was a secondary analysis of a national data set with a focus on nursing," Dr. Dowdell explains.
In 2018, Lauren was selected to represent 奶糖直播 at the 5th Forbes 30 Under 30 Summit and was the only undergraduate student invited by the Provost to be part of the Fitzpatrick College of Nursing Dean Search Committee.
Notes Dr. Dowdell, "Lauren is remarkable for the joy she takes in working with others, the honest pleasure she has in participating with them, and the quality of her work in addition to all of her deliverables."
