Fulbright Scholar Dr. Durante Collaborating on Transnational Mixed Methods Project
Fulbright Scholar Angela Durante, PhD, MSN, RN arrived on campus in May via Italy and Spain. FCN's Bridgette M. Brawner, PhD, MDiv, APRN, the Richard and Marianne Kreider Endowed Professor in Nursing for Vulnerable Populations, will host Dr. Durante as a Research Scholar through the International Fulbright Commission through September 30, 2022.
The aim of their transnational mixed methods project—dyadic interview and survey data from Italy, Spain and the Netherlands—is to examine the experiences of informal caregivers of heart failure patients and factors that lead to poor caregiver outcomes. The ultimate goal is to generate new knowledge and advance the science to build interventions to improve their quality of life and reduce the burden of caring.
Dr. Durante is currently an Assistant Professor at the Universidad de La Rioja in Logroño, Spain.
She received her PhD (cum laude) from the University of Tor Vergata in Rome, Italy in 2019. Dr. Durante earned her BSN from Milan University at L. Sacco Hospital in 2011. She has been a registered nurse since 2012, specializing in cardiovascular care since 2013, and has worked for the cardiovascular and surgical departments of different hospitals in Milan and Rome. Dr. Durante earned her MSN in 2015 from the Catholic University of Turin. She was the winner of the Heart Failure Association nurse training fellowship award in 2016 and of the American Heart Association Clinical Article of the year in 2020.
Dr. Durante has lectured for various universities in nursing bachelor courses, such as the Saint Camillus University of Rome and Catholic University "Our Lady of Good Counsel" in Tirane.
Dr. Durante is a member of the HoT (Heart Failure Specialists of Tomorrow) of the European Society of Cardiology, the Mixed Methods International Research Association (MMIRA), the European Academy of Nursing Science (EANS), and is Secretary of the Lecturers of the Italian Society of Nursing Science. She serves as an ad hoc peer reviewer for journals in the cardiovascular and nursing fields.
Dr. Durante is also coauthor of a book and author of scientific publications regards informal caregiving, especially in heart failure, and mixed methods research approaches and techniques.
