The achievements of Amy Pelleg ’96 MSN, RN, BC - NE, CCRN were celebrated on April 29 during the College of Nursing’s 28th Annual Mass and Alumni Awards Ceremony, held in the St. Thomas of ֱ Church.

Lesley Perry, PhD, RN, associate dean, bestowed the College’s highest award, the Medallion, to her for Distinguished Leadership in Nursing Practice. She is Nurse Manager, ICU, Bryn Mawr Hospital, part of the Main Line Health System.

Ms. Pelleg's citation follows:

Imagine today's intensive care unit-critical care, machines,  technology, acutely ill patients whose survival depends on competence and precise clinical judgment, and the skill of clinical providers, most of whom are nurses--nurses who are capable of independent action when a clinical situation takes an unexpected shift. Imagine the needs of distressed families in that highly charged environment as they deal with their concern for a loved one.

Meet Amy Pelleg, expert critical care nurse, exemplary manager and mentor and a compassionate person. Meet the manager of the intensive care unit at the Bryn Mawr Hospital, Main Line Health. Under her guidance that unit has received awards for its culture of excellence and record of superior care.

Amy began her career as a nursing student at the School of Nursing, the University of Virginia and upon graduation practiced in the pediatric ICU at UVA Medical Center.

Early on, she gained international experience as a staff nurse at the Chaim Sheba Medical Center in Israel in its adult and pediatric post cardiac surgery ICU. While in Tel Aviv, she also served as a nurse at the American Embassy and as the nurse manager and advisor to the Ambassador. Upon returning to the United States, Amy came to study at our College of Nursing earning her master’s degree in clinical education in 1996. Amy's history in critical care nursing in The Main Line Health System is long and impressive.

She served as the Director of Clinical Nursing Education at Lankenau for  9 years and was a member of the senior leadership team that gained Magnet Status for the institution in 2005.

In all her positions, her competence as nurse has been matched by her reputation as a leader who engages staff and rewards nurses for their excellence in clinical practice.

She too has been acknowledged for her excellence; A Nightingale Award for Clinical Practice and others from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses and Sigma Theta Tau, the Nursing National Honor Society.

Amy leads by example. She is an expert critical care nurse, astute leader and mentor and always the compassionate person who supports patients and their families when they are most vulnerable. This is the kind of person you want at your side at critical times in your life.

The College of Nursing is proud to claim Amy Pelleg as an alumna and the recipient of our 2017 Medallion for Distinguished Leadership in Nursing Practice.
