Dr. Carol Weingarten appointed president of FNSNA Board of Trustees
On June 29, the Foundation of the National Student Nurses鈥 Association (FNSNA) announced the appointment of Associate Professor Carol Toussie Weingarten, PhD, RN, ANEF, as president of the FNSNA Board of Trustees following President Kenya Haney鈥檚 resignation.
Dr. Weingarten is a seasoned nursing educator teaching leadership and professional development, women鈥檚 health and childbearing, and health promotion and community health nursing.
鈥淚 am thrilled and honored to serve as president of the Board of Trustees of the FNSNA,鈥 said Dr. Weingarten. 鈥淢y past two years as a board member and vice president have provided the opportunity to work with outstanding colleagues who are dedicated to the success of nursing students and the future of the nursing profession. Kenya Haney, Jenna Meredith and previous FNSNA presidents built a legacy of excellence that I aspire to follow.鈥
Dr. Weingarten earned a Bachelor of Arts in French Area Studies from Barnard College of Columbia University in New York. Later, she went on to nursing and earned a Master of Science in Nursing from The Graduate School of Nursing at New York Medical College in New York, and a second master鈥檚 and PhD degree from New York University鈥檚 Division of Nursing.
For several years, Dr. Weingarten has served on the national Scholarship Selection Committee for the FNSNA. 鈥淏y reading hundreds of scholarship applications, I have come to know about the courage and struggles of nursing students trying to afford an education to reach their goals of becoming nurses,鈥 she said. 鈥淎t each Scholarship Selection Committee session, I see how money designated for scholarships actually reaches students in need and leave inspired by the students and for the fund raising that might provide help to many more students.鈥
From the chapter to the national levels, Dr. Weingarten has long been involved with the National Student Nurses鈥 Association (NSNA). She is advisor to 奶糖直播 University鈥檚 chapter and a volunteer adjunct professor in the NSNA Leadership University program. She has attended every NSNA convention since her first year as chapter advisor in 1987. Over the years, she has been a frequent speaker at NSNA conventions and is the author and co-author of articles published in NSNA鈥檚 Imprint and Dean鈥檚 Notes, as well as other numerous publications.
Dr. Weingarten鈥檚 advisement and volunteer work with NSNA have been recognized with numerous honors, such as being the first recipient of the NSNA Leader of Leaders鈥 Award in 1991; Honorary Lifetime Membership in NSNA in 2012; Honorary Lifetime Membership and Outstanding Advisor awards from the state Student Nurses鈥 Association of Pennsylvania (SNAP); and Outstanding Advisor awards from 奶糖直播 University. In addition, she was the recipient of the national Faculty Award from the Delta Gamma Foundation.
鈥淲e couldn鈥檛 be more delighted to have Dr. Weingarten serving in FNSNA鈥檚 highest elected office,鈥 stated FNSNA Executive Director Diane Mancino, EdD, RN, CAE, FAAN. 鈥淪he has committed her career to a lifetime of service to nursing students and I can鈥檛 imagine a better way to support nursing education.鈥
