College of Nursing Awarded Grant from Jonas Center for Nursing and Veterans Healthcare to Fund Doctoral Nursing Students
Two PhD students were selected as 2014-2016 Jonas Scholars by the Jonas Center for Nursing excellence programs, the Jonas Nurse Leaders Scholars Program and Jonas Veterans Healthcare Program (JVHP). The grant is part of a national initiative to address nursing faculty shortage and prepare future nurses as America鈥檚 healthcare system continues to evolve.
Christina Lam, MSN, RN is supported through the Jonas Nurse Leaders Scholars Program. She is studying nursing faculty experiences in preparing nursing students to teach symptom recognition and response to chronically ill patients. Lam is an instructor at the James Madison University Department of Nursing.
Hannah Thomas 鈥09 BSN, 鈥11 MSN, RN is supported through the Jonas Veterans Healthcare Program. She is examining students鈥 use of electronic health records in relation to developing nurses鈥 competency and promoting quality care in VA and non-VA health care settings. Thomas is adjunct faculty for the College.
