ֱ Nurses were honored in front of an international audience in Texas recently as the Alpha Nu Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) was recognized with the Chapter Key Award. It was presented at STTI’s 41st Biennial Convention on October 31st in Grapevine, Texas.
STTI, nursing’s honor society, held this biennial convention to celebrate the global nursing community with the theme “People and Knowledge: Connecting for Global Health.” More than 1,800 colleagues representing 33 countries were in attendance as knowledge was shared to help improve the health of the world’s people.
Chapter Key Award recipients are recognized at each biennial convention. The Chapter Key Award, established in 1991, honors STTI chapters that excel in chapter-related activities such as Membership recruitment and retention, Publicity and programming, Professional and leadership development and Local, national and international collaboration. The College of Nursing’s chapter was recognized for its co-sponsorship of the Research Symposium and of the Distinguished Lectureship, partnership with the College’s chapter of Student Nurses’ Association of Pennsylvania and other chapters on educational programs, for service activities related to St. Thomas of ֱ Day and Unity Clinic in Philadelphia, a recent member programming survey and biannual newsletter to keep every member informed.
The award was not the only recognition for the College. Alpha Nu member Nancy Sharts-Hopko, PhD, RN, FAAN, professor and director of the doctoral program, was elected as STTI’s treasurer for a two-year term.
