Mid-Career Service Award
The Mid-Career Service Award recognizes mid-career faculty members would have made extraordinary contributions to the welfare and functioning of their departments, colleges, the University, and their profession. Such service must have exceeded the normal requirements of the candidate’s position, and must have been minimally compensated.
All active, full-time faculty members, including CNT and tenured faculty, at the associate level are eligible. The award will include a medallion to be given at the May faculty and staff picnic, and will be publicly recognized at the University graduation ceremony. Faculty are eligible to win this award only once.
Nomination Protocol and Application Materials
Nominations are made via an online submission form, and include the name, email address and department of the nominator, the name and department of the nominee, and a short narrative (300 words or less) describing the merits of the nominee for this award. Full-time tenured faculty, chairpersons, academic directors, and deans are eligible to nominate. Faculty members may also self-nominate.
The Awards Committee will notify the nominee by email, and the nomination will become effective once the nominee accepts the invitation. Invited nominees will be asked to submit materials in support of their nomination, which include the following: a statement certifying that the nominee meets the eligibility requirements; a list of service activities, with dates, leadership role, level of compensation, and the nature of service performed; and a short narrative (no longer than one page) describing the significance and impact of the service activities. There must be evidence of leadership and outstanding achievement. If materials are missing, an individual's nomination for this award may not be considered.
If a nominee is not given the award, they will have the option to allow their application to stay active for up to two additional years, so long as they continue to serve at the rank of associate professor.
The Awards committee members are not eligible to nominate or to be nominated for any award overseen by the committee.
Procedure for Review and Selection
The Awards Committee of the Faculty Congress will be charged with reviewing nominations and submitting a recommendation to the Faculty Congress for a mid-career service award recipient, along with a justification and a complete summary data on all the other nominees.
