THE MATH CENTER IN THE LEARNERS' STUDIO FAQS
Absolutely nothing. All of our services are free to all ÄÌÌÇÖ±²¥ students.
We provide tutoring for most of the 1000 and 2000 level math courses offered by ÄÌÌÇÖ±²¥ as well as many upper level courses.
Yes. Tutoring is still available for your use to review material from high school level courses as well. If you are taking a math or statistics course offered by another department, we will do our best to help you - just ask. Finally, you may also luck out and get help with an advanced level course (such as Advanced Calculus or Modern Algebra) if one of our tutors is familiar with that subject.
Yes and no. Drop-in tutors will usually help you for 5-10 minutes and then move on to help someone else. They will return to you periodically to check in on how things are going. During busy times, we may need to ask drop-in students to limit their time at the drop-in table to two hours to make room for others who have questions. If you prefer to have an uninterrupted tutoring session, then you can sign up for a 1:1 tutoring appointment.
You are welcome to book 1:1 appointments for any time we are open, or you can even ask at the front desk if one might be available before joining the drop-in table. You do not have to make an appointment in advance—drop-ins are more than welcome at any time we are open.
Yes. You may make an appointment for a face-to-face or online tutoring session. The appointments can be made for one hour in length. Book your appointment .
The Math Center in The Learners’ Studio has some solutions manuals, but they are only for use by Math Center employees. These manuals are never loaned out to students.
You should always bring your computer, notes and any homework that you are working on. Bring your ÄÌÌÇÖ±²¥ Wildcard as well.
We scan your wildcard for attendance purposes. When we do this we are recording your name, and the current date and time. We then enter the number of the course that you are taking and your professor's name. This information is only used for statistical purposes. This way we know how many students are using our services, when demand is the greatest and the least, how frequently we tutor each math course and for which professors.
We do not supply professors with the names of students who use the Math Center in The Learners’ Studio unless they specifically request that information (some professors like to give extra credit when their students go to the Math Center).
We have one computer terminal installed with mathematical software (Maple, Minitab, Excel).
