STUDENT ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL SUPPORT SERVICES

Undergraduate and graduate students can take advantage of a wide variety of academic and professional support services to help them reach new levels of achievement, even in subject areas in which they already excel. University-wide and college-based resources provide specialized, one-on-one services intended to cultivate success.

The areas listed below focus on supporting, elevating and applying learning.

ACADEMIC SUPPORT

University-wide academic resources are available to all undergraduate and graduate students within the six colleges.

Center

INDIVIDUALIZED SUPPORT

Several offices across campus provide specialized support to ÄÌÌÇÖ±²¥ students. 

CENTER FOR GRADUATE RESEARCH AND EDUCATION

Supports and promotes graduate and professional students, providing a strategic, comprehensive, university-wide voice for graduate students and programs at the University.

OFFICE OF INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Offers services to international students, including immigration rights and responsibilities; educational, social and personal counseling; cultural adjustment issues; and campus and community activities.

OFFICE OF DISABILITY SERVICES

Works to coordinate the appropriate services and accommodations for students with permanent and short-term physical disabilities and serves as the center for general information and specialized knowledge on physical disability issues.

OFFICE OF VETERANS AND MILITARY SERVICE MEMBERS

Assists veterans and their dependents as they reach personal, professional and academic goals.

COLLEGE RESOURCES

Each college has additional resources geared towards students in their disciplines.

UNDERGRADUATE

The Office for Undergraduate Students guides and supports students from orientation to graduation as they explore the many experiential possibilities that the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences provides. We empower students to begin a process of self-discovery, providing them with the resources to forge their own educational and professional direction.

GRADUATE

Students are encouraged to contact their program director or department chair to find out about resources tailored to their specific needs. In addition, the Office of Graduate Studies offers a number of resources, including conference travel funding, summer research fellowships and language workshops.

UNDERGRADUATE

The Clay Center facilitates the intellectual, professional and personal growth of undergraduate business students by providing educational planning and academic advising; experiential learning opportunities (internships and CoOps); and professional development programs and resources.

Housed in the Clay Center, the Charlotte and James V. O’Donnell ’63 Center for Professional Development provides professional development activities that enrich students’ academics with insights and experiences that support professional goals. 

VSB Peer Tutors support the academic success of their undergraduate classmates in the core Business courses. The program is open to all VSB undergraduate students.

Peer tutoring and mentoring programs are available through the College's various student groups and honor societies. Learn more.

Various support services are available to Nursing students to assist them with their academic endeavors, such as those that relate to test-taking, study skills and subject-specific issues. Learn more.

Academic support services are available to all College of Professional Studies students in credit-bearing degree or certificate programs through a variety of resources, including advising, library, writing, math services, study skills counseling, tutoring and technology support.

Resources available to professional education (non-credit) students are limited and vary by program and/or course.

The Office of Academic Success provides services to students through an academic mentor program, study skills seminars, instructional materials, one-on-one meetings and resources.

Students are prepared for professional success through education offerings and one-on-one career counseling provided by the Office of Career Strategy and Advancement.

BEYOND ACADEMICS

Numerous resources are available to support the needs of ÄÌÌÇÖ±²¥ students beyond academics.
