1950s

1955

Richard N. Winfield, Esq., ’55 CLAS, , cofounder of the International Senior Lawyers Project and of counsel at Clifford Chance LLP, wrote the book Exporting the Matrix: The Campaign to Reform Media Laws Abroad in 2012.

1959

Last October, the city of Somerville, Mass., named its newly completed athletic field after Olympic high jumper, youth sports mentor and dedicated public servant Phil Reavis ’59 CLAS. The honor is the first such recognition for a person of color in the community’s historyβ€”and a fitting tribute to a man accustomed to reaching unprecedented heights. A standout student-athlete at ΔΜΜΗΦ±²₯, Reavis won a national title in the high jump in 1956 and, with a leap of 6 feet, 9Β½ inches, propelled the Wildcats to their first-ever NCAA Division I Track and Field Championship in 1957.

1969

Charles A. Buechel Jr. ’69 VSBΜύcelebrated his 50th year of practicing law in November 2023. He is of counsel at the firm of Rawle and Henderson LLP, which he joined in 2022, and is based in the firm’s Pittsburgh, Pa., office.

Tom Costello Jr. ’69 COE, founder and β€œChief Sock Person” of the nonprofit organization The Joy of Sox, celebrated achieving the goal of collecting 1 million pairs of socks to distribute to people experiencing homelessness in the Philadelphia area and across the US. Started in 2010, The Joy of Sox has been able to provide comfort to those in need through the generosity of donors and volunteers, including countless ΔΜΜΗΦ±²₯ns who continually contribute to the cause.

Joseph E. Comaty, PhD, ’71 CLAS, ’76 MSΜύreceived the John D. Preston Award for Outstanding Contributions to Clinical Psychopharmacology from the Society for Prescribing Psychology, Division 55 of the American Psychological Association, in August 2023.

Stephen C. Marini, PhD, ’71 CLASΜύwas elected to the Logan University Board of Trustees and will be advising on programs involving total health and the marriage of health care with disease care.

Thomas Swick ’74 CLAS published his memoir in November 2023, Falling Into Place: A Story of Love, Poland, and the Making of a Travel Writer.Μύ

1979

Mark Redmond ’79 VSBΜύ, executive director of the nonprofit Spectrum Youth and Family Services in Burlington, Vt., has been recognized by the Courtney and Victoria Buffum Family Foundation for his decades-long work to help homeless and at-risk youth with the creation of an endowment in his name that will specifically support Spectrum’s two drop-in centers for young people ages 14 to 24.

1980s

1984

Jack Hallahan ’84 CLAS acquired Swimming World magazine, serving as CEO and publisher since March 2023. In addition, Hallahan has volunteered in a variety of leadership roles to support ΔΜΜΗΦ±²₯’s West Coast alumni, including being instrumental in developing ΔΜΜΗΦ±²₯ in the Valley and serving as president of the ΔΜΜΗΦ±²₯ University Club of Northern California since 2016.

David R. Poma ’84 CLAS has been appointed to the Board of Trustees of The New School in New York City.

1985

Victor F. D’Ascenzo ’85 CLAS was named associate vice president for development at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pa.

1986

A ΔΜΜΗΦ±²₯ graduate turned CEO turned treasure hunter is on a quest to recover artifacts from a legendary shipwreck in the Bahamas. After three decades of rising through the corporate ranks, Carl Allen ’86 CLAS set sail for a new adventure in 2016, when he followed his passion for underwater archaeology and founded Allen Explorations. His most exciting discoveries continue to emerge as he and his crewβ€”including his wife, Gigi Allen ’86 CLAS, for whom his 164-foot-long yacht is namedβ€”have engaged in cultural artifact research and recovery efforts while searching for the wreck of the Maravillas, a Spanish ship packed with gold, silver, jewels and gemstones that sank in 1656. To protect and preserve what they have recovered, the Allens have opened a maritime museum in the Bahamas.

Kevin Kiernan ’88 CLAS, a former ΔΜΜΗΦ±²₯ football player and a onetime entrepreneur on the TV show Shark Tank, donated a kidney to a family friend in January 2023.

1989

Curtis R. Chalmers ’89 VSB was appointed senior vice president and chief underwriting officer of Nautilus Insurance Group on Jan. 1, 2024.

Joseph P. Ford ’89 COE has been appointed engineering manager of Conval, a global manufacturer of high-performance severe service valves based in Enfield, Conn.

1990s

1990

W. Bruce Ingram ’90 MA published his second book, Timeless Classics: A Poetic Compendium of Catholic Spirituality. With selections dating from the fourth century, this book chronicles religious tenets gleaned from a broad range of the Catholic Church’s spiritual masters.

Jennifer Santangelo ’90 CLAS has been elected partner at the national law firm of Ballard Spahr. Santangelo has more than 25 years of experience, both in-house and in private practice. Her clients include financial institutions of all sizes, private equity firms, equipment finance companies, and other corporate and commercial organizations.

1992

Katharine K. Suprenuk ’92 VSB has been appointed president of Railcar Leasing North America for Marmon Rail. In this role, she will lead the leasing business of Union Tank Car Co. and Procor Ltd., which encompasses all of Marmon Holdings' railcar leasing activities across North America.

1995

Jeff D. Bernarducci ’95 CLAS joined Hinckley Allen as a partner in the firm’s expanding Construction and Public Contracts practice. With over two decades of experience across diverse industry sectors, Bernarducci brings a wide range of experience with complex construction issues and disputes, and a record of success in arbitration, litigation and out-of-court settlements.

1996

Gina Buonaguro ’96 CLAS published her seventh novel, The Virgins of Venice, in December 2022, and it was short-listed for the 2023 Chaucer Early Historical Fiction Award.

Jared Joseph DeMarinis ’96 CLAS was unanimously chosen as Maryland’s new state administrator of elections in June 2023, charged with administering election procedures and overseeing major voting systems and election procedure changes.

Jonathan Peri, PhD, JD, ’96 CLAS , president of Manor College, was selected as one of Philadelphia Business Journal’s Most Admired CEOs for 2023 and was recognized in the journal’s December 2023 issue.

1997

Jennifer Johnson ’97 CLAS was sworn in as ambassador to the Federated States of Micronesia in August 2023.

1999

John Bassounas ’99 VSB, a Pavone Group company partner since 2012, was promoted to president, which will allow him to continue in a position focused on looking ahead and modernizing the marketing agency’s offerings.

2000s

2000

Russell Johnston ’00 VSB was appointed co-head of the litigation group for the law firm Seward & Kissel LLP in September 2023.

2002

James Osborn Jr. ’02 COE earned the Certified Private Wealth Advisor certification in October 2023. As part of the certification process, Osborn enrolled in an executive education program at the Yale School of Management in advanced wealth management strategies; met experience requirements; and passed a comprehensive examination covering 11 core topics.

2003

Kathryn Petruzziello ’03 VSB was awarded the Center for Hearing and Communication’s Nitchie Award in Communication and noted for the importance of representation in children’s books. She has published her second book, Mighty Mila Dream Job, which is based on her middle daughter, Mila, who is deaf. Petruzziello has been featured on TV news segments for routinely donating books to children receiving cochlear implants.

2005

Caitlin Connors ’05 CLAS published her first book, Irishman Dies From Stubbornness, which is based on the life and adventures of a real-life β€œworld’s most interesting man” whose obituary went viral a few years ago.

Daniel J. Sherry Jr. ’05 CWSL has been elevated to shareholder at the Philadelphia law firm of Eisenberg, Rothweiler, Winkler, Eisenberg & Jeck, PC Sherry concentrates his legal practice almost exclusively on product liability cases and professional malpractice actions.

2006

Michael Casale, CPA, ’06 VSB has been promoted to senior manager in the tax practice at Baker Newman Noyes. Casale specializes in providing services to closely held businesses and their owners. He joined the firm in 2015, having previously been with William Steele & Associates.

Christy Schillig ’06 CLAS wrote her debut novel, a romance titled Wish You Weren’t Here.

2007

Andrew Avallone ’07 CLAS and his wife, Bonnie, were married in Belgrade, Serbia, on Sept. 23, 2023.

Erin Garrett ’07 VSB, ’15 MBA married Jon Turner on Nov. 11, 2023, in Ellicott City, Md., with more than 25 ΔΜΜΗΦ±²₯ alumni in attendance.

2009

Brendan J. Lyons ’09 CLAS published Charley: The True Story of the Youngest Soldier to Die in the American Civil War, about a boy from West Chester, Pa., who joined the Union Army at age 12 and was killed at Antietam, and whose burial place is still unknown. The book comes 20 years after Lyons’ first encounter with Charley’s story, when he undertook building a monument to Charley as part of his Eagle Scout project.

Walter Smith Randolph ’09 CLAS was named investigative executive producer at CBS New York, in addition to being elected vice president-broadcast of the National Association of Black Journalists after serving three years as treasurer.

2010s

2011

Daisy Ayllon ’11 CLAS, a senior attorney at Romanucci & Blandin in Chicago, was named to the 2024 Rising Stars list by Super Lawyers. In 2023, her firm won a $40 million medical malpractice verdict for a boy who was paralyzed during a heart surgery.

Kelly Kehoe ’11 FCN welcomed a daughter, Clare Schmitz, in 2023.

Meghan (Price) Travaline ’11 CLAS, ’15 CWSL and her husband, Michael, welcomed their fourth child, a boy named Michael Santo, on Sept. 5, 2023.

2012

Mike Angelico ’12 COE and Abby (Vogel) Angelico ’13 COE, ’20 MBAwelcomed their second daughter, Scarlett Grace, on March 21, 2023. She was baptized at St. Thomas of ΔΜΜΗΦ±²₯ Church by University President the Rev. Peter M. Donohue, OSA, PhD, ’75 CLAS.

Iesha E. Lewis-Crofoot ’12 CLASwas promoted to senior vice president, managing director, within the Medical Communications division of Red Nucleus, a company devoted to supporting clients within the life sciences/health care industry.

Pearl Mensah ’13 CLAS, ’14 MA, ’16 MS is embracing the latest artificial intelligence tools to empower businesses as she embarks on her entrepreneurial journey. As CEO and Founder of Pearl’s Sales and Marketing Consultancy, which launched in August 2023, she’s leveraging her extensive experience in the life sciences pharmaceutical industry to provide innovative sales and marketing strategies. β€œMy role involves overseeing all aspects of business operations and crafting bespoke solutions that drive revenue growth for my clients,” says Mensah. The former ΔΜΜΗΦ±²₯ Women’s Basketball student-athlete continues to stay actively engaged with the Universityβ€”most recently as an expert panelist during The Career Center’s second annual Biotech Bootcamp in February.

Nicole (Walker) Pareene ’13 CLAS was selected by the US Department of State for a prestigious 10-month fellowship project to train teachers and teach English in Thailand at Naresuan University. Pareene is one of only 200 US citizens selected for the 2023–2024 English Language Fellow Program.

2014

Russell Beckham ’14 MA was selected to run in the MS Run the US relay across the United States in 2024. He will run more than 140 miles in five days to raise money for multiple sclerosis awareness, research and financial aid.

Joseph I. Breidenstein Jr., PhD, ’14 CLAS had his first book, Nietzschean, Feminist, and Embodied Perspectives on the Presocratics: Philosophy as Partnership, published on Nov. 27, 2023.

Peter Christiano, MD, ’14 CLAS married Alexandra Giduck at the St. Thomas of ΔΜΜΗΦ±²₯ Church on July 22, 2023.

Emily Morgan Welch, JD, ’14 CLAS, ’16 MPA and Shawn Welch ’14 COE welcomed a daughter, Ella Bingham, in November 2023.

Madeleine Wechsler Naccarato ’14 FCN and Peter A. Naccarato ’14 VSB, ’19 MBA welcomed a son on Sept. 12, 2023.

2015

Hope Elizabeth Megan ’15 FCN completed her Master of Science in Nursing degree in Healthcare Organizational Leadership from Johns Hopkins University in December 2023. She is an assistant nurse manager of orthopedic surgery at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

Jason J. Theobald, Esq., ’15 CWSL , a litigation attorney representing individuals and businesses in a variety of civil matters, has been elected as a member of Curtis Thaxter LLC, a law firm based in Portland, Maine, which he joined in 2019. He previously practiced law in the Litigation division of the Office of the Maine Attorney General and served as a law clerk for the Maine Superior Court and the Maine Business and Consumer Docket.

Sara Thoms ’15 CLAS and Brian Lutkewitte ’15 VSB were married at Old St. Joseph’s Church in Philadelphia on June 17, 2023, surrounded by friends and family. Thoms currently works as the assistant director of First Year Experience at ΔΜΜΗΦ±²₯.

Innovation? Meet Nova Nation. Adam Butchy, PhD, ’16 COE and Shannon Rhodes ’16 COE were named as members of the Forbes 30 Under 30 Class of 2023. Dr. Butchy and his two cofounders made the list for their work on HEARTio, a startup with an FDA-designated breakthrough medical device that empowers cardiologists to detect coronary artery disease more quickly, more accurately and more cost-effectively than the current standard of care. He credits his ΔΜΜΗΦ±²₯ Engineering education and Business minor in helping him co-found and run his company. Classmate Rhodes was featured for overseeing the launch of nine global NBA apps and managing the development of the Los Angeles Clippers' new streaming service, ClipperVision. Her interest in the intersection of sports and technology started at ΔΜΜΗΦ±²₯, where her senior capstone project automated the first-and-ten line with a $10 camera for high school football teams.

Mel Plett ’16 MS launched the podcast Your Work Friends on Nov. 25, 2023, which leverages her and her cohost’s extensive experience in corporate human resources to explore essential workplace topics, including layoffs, finding the perfect job match and the nuances of resigning.

2018

Dan Wood ’18 PhD wrote The CanaΓ€d, described as an accessible epic written in blank verse for a modern audience. The poem is inspired by German, English, Greek and Roman classics, although the historical setting is largely the Ancient Near East during the Late Bronze Age. Wood authored two previous books and is widely published in peer-reviewed journals, in addition to presenting his work internationally.

Steve Atieh ’23 VSB and his siblings successfully pitched their popular popcorn alternative, Like Air Puffcorn, on ABC’s Shark Tank, earning a $300,000 deal with 10% equity.

2024

Looking for β€œsound advice”? This January, Kritika Jain ’24 VSB was selected as the new host of the Girls Into VC podcast. With interviews highlighting the stories and experiences of diverse professionals in venture capital, the podcast advances the overall mission of the organization with the same name β€”empowering young women in the early stages of their careers with mentorship and the education resources needed to break into venture capital. Its ultimate goal is to bridge the gender gap in the industry by creating a robust pipeline of skilled and passionate young women ready to revolutionize venture capital.
