Two big names in Wildcats Track and Field history shared the spotlight in June for a tremendous honor. Ron Delany ’58 VSB, 1956 Olympic gold medalist for Ireland in the 1500 meters, 10-time IC4A champion, 10-time Penn Relay winner and four-time individual NCAA champion, and Vicki Huber ’89 CLAS, a two-time Olympian, eight-time NCAA champion, and 20-time BIG EAST champion, both added one more medal to their impressive collections during the inaugural induction ceremony for the newly formed Collegiate Athlete Hall of Fame. The celebration paid tribute to the accomplishments of 20 men and 10 women whose achievements spanned nearly 100 years. Delany, one of ֱ’s and Ireland’s most accomplished athletes, was also an inaugural inductee into ֱ’s Varsity Club Hall of Fame in 1974. Huber, named national Collegiate Female Athlete of the Year for 1988-89, was a 10-time All-American.
Raymond Kane ’67 COE, ’81 MS with the help of Lee Doyer ’67 COE coordinated an effort to compile the memoirs of 16 ֱns in one book, The Journey of a Band of ֱ Brothers. This unique group memoir details the life arc of these men from young first-year students at ֱ to their retirement years. The book shows how the bonds of friendship remain today among these men, many of whom were commissioned officers through the NROTC unit at ֱ.
Domenic Fiore Brunelli ’68 CLAS has published a memoir, Big Daddy: From Near to Eternity, which traces the sometimes zany characters and stories that have informed his life, from growing up in Little Italy and his years as an undergrad at ֱ, to his return as a senior citizen student.
For her visionary leadership and significant contributions that influence progressive and critical care nursing, Gloria McNeal ’70 BSN, PhD, MSN, ACNS-BC, FAAN, was presented with the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses Pioneering Spirit Award during a ceremony in Houston. As associate vice president for Community Affairs in Health at National University in San Diego, Dr. McNeal, who’s currently serving on ֱ’s M. Louise Fitzpatrick College of Nursing Board of Consultors, has led efforts to bring health care directly to those most in need and introduce telehealth and remote monitoring to critical care nursing practice.
William Shakalis ’72 CLAS, associate librarian (tenured) now emeritus, retired from Worcester State University in Massachusetts in January 2021.
Jerry Bouma ’74 CLAS, who spent his career as a management consultant in the agri-food sector, was recently appointed as the honorary consul for the Kingdom of the Netherlands, for the province of Alberta, Canada. In December 2021, he published a book, Touching Greatness, Forever Together—The ֱ Track Story: 1966-1981.
Charles Desnoyers, PhD, ’75 CLAS, ’79 MA was named professor emeritus at La Salle University in September 2021. Dr. Desnoyers taught Chinese, Japanese and World history at La Salle from 1989 until 2021. He has written several books, the most recent titled Patterns of East Asian History.
Marc P. Weingarten, Esq., ’76 CWSL, a partner in the Locks Law Firm in Philadelphia, presented at the Pan European Organization of Personal Injury Lawyers Joint Conference on Medical Negligence and Product Liability, Pharmaceutical and Mass Tort 2022. The title of his presentation was “Anatomy of a Class Action in the United States.”
Leeanne (Rebic) Hay ’80 CLAS published her first book, NPE* A Story Guide for Unexpected DNA Discoveries, exposing the life-changing impact of the identity loss that thousands of people encounter from taking a consumer DNA test and providing resources to overcome it.
Joseph Lewis ’81 CLAS published Miracle at the Mission, the second book of his Westthorpe Academy Mysteries, which follows two high school-age best friends as they are drawn into a series of events filled with suspense, mystery and espionage.

Quinn Seese Collins, DNP, RN, NE-BC, ’83 FCN, ’89 MSN has been appointed senior director of Nursing for Strategy and Integration for the Johns Hopkins Health System. In this role, she will work collaboratively with the chief nursing officers system-wide to standardize strategic initiatives and nursing practices.

John Colgan ’85 VSB celebrated his retirement from a 38-year business career in 2020 by building his own in-home cigar and sports bar that includes a tribute wall to ֱ’s victory over Georgetown in the 1985 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship. Colgan’s collection of memorabilia also includes items from his time working at CBS Sports from 1981–85.
Paul Romanelli ’85 VSB was named the 2021 Business Person of the Year by The Suffolk Times in Long Island, N.Y., for his leadership and community dedication. Romanelli is the owner of Suffolk Security Systems, and he also serves as chairman of the Eastern Long Island Hospital Foundation and has helped raise more than $500,000 for COVID-19 relief.

Lillian Dukes ’87 MS has been recognized by Savoy Magazine, a leading African American lifestyle and business publication, as one of the Most Influential Black Executives in Corporate America for 2022. The senior vice president of Technical Operations at Atlas Air, a leading global provider of outsourced aircraft and aviation operating services, Dukes has spent more than 30 years solving problems, hiring and leading great people and delivering results. Mark McCreary ’95 CLAS, co-chair of the Privacy and Data Security Practice at Fox Rothschild, earned the American National Standards Institue-accredited Certified Information Privacy Technologist credential through the International Association of Privacy Professionals. Sneha (Patel) Desai, Esq., ’96 VSB has joined the medical technology company Stryker as its chief legal counsel for Global Litigation and Employment. She was formerly deputy general counsel for Litigation at BASF Corporation.
Good things come to those who bait—or at least that’s the case for Nick Honachefsky ’96 VSB, whose lifelong passion for angling has taken him across the globe to more than 45 countries and shaped his professional career as a full-time sport fishing and travel journalist. Now, Honachefsky has reeled in the opportunity to host and executive produce his own Discovery Channel series, Saltwater Underground, set in his home state of New Jersey.

Welcome home, US Army 1st Lt. Cardon Furry ’20 COE, who in May returned to the States after being deployed to Syria for nine months, during which time she was awarded a Bronze Star for outstanding service. Based in an active combat zone, 1st Lt. Furry was the head engineer at her remote US outpost, where she and the eight soldiers under her command were charged with maintaining security, force protection and life support. This included all electrical, carpentry and plumbing as well as constructing defensive structures, in addition to conducting all demolition tasks.
