Who: Andrew Lee ’19 ME, minors in Mathematics and Physics
What: Presidential Scholar, undergraduate researcher, tutor, intern, international service volunteer, NSF Graduate Research Fellow and Knight-Hennessy Scholar
- Andrew began his research career during his freshman year, working with Associate Professor Gang Feng, PhD, studying thermal enhancement of phase change materials via conductive nano-scale networks
- Won a ÄÌÌÇÖ±²¥ Undergraduate Research Fellowship in 2016 but chose to accept an engineering research position with the Pax River NAVAIR Materials Division
- Coordinator in the University’s Math Learning Resource Center
- Surveyed jungle terrain for clean water systems in Nicaragua
- Developed a system to passively collect water as part of the GIANT Internship Program in France
- Worked on water pipe couplings in Panama
- Served as a PATHWAYS intern in the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division, where he advanced understanding of corrosion prevention
- Recognized as a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow
Where: from his home in Leonardtown, Maryland, Andrew’s undergraduate travels took him to Nicaragua, France and Panama.
What’s next: Stanford University’s Materials Science and Engineering PhD program where he aspires to meet the challenges of climate change and the energy crisis by developing novel materials that fuel the next generation of global energy processes.
