The Office of Belonging and Inclusion provides and supports events and workshops that enhance the experience of underrepresented students, develop cultural competency and create spaces for inclusive engagement.

Join us for pizza and conversation on Fridays! You bring the topic; we bring the pizza.
Heritage Month Celebrations
OBI leads a committee of campus partners, including students, faculty and staff, to celebrate cultural heritage months across campus. Look out for announcements of our events and let us know if there is a month you would like to see celebrated.
Student Leadership and Identity
OBI provides discussion groups to support underrepresented students who participate in student organizations. Students will discuss their roles on campus and how their identities impact their roles and experiences.
"What Does It Mean?" Series
OBI staff and ambassadors provide discussion groups for underrepresented students and welcome all intersecting identities. Students discuss contemporary issues and expectations and build relationships by sharing personal experiences and engaging in exploring their own identities.
WORKSHOPS
Receive a Workshop or Training from the Office of Belonging and Inclusion
The Office of Belonging and Inclusion provides a space for student development and reflection through our various workshops offered at the introductory, intermediate, and advanced levels. These workshops provide an opportunity for students to discuss and explore more about their social identity, power and privilege, inclusion and bias, microaggressions, bystander intervention, and allyship in our environments.
Introductory Workshops/Trainings
Identity 101: This workshop allows students to explore and understand different aspects of their identity by engaging in intentional exercises that will help them reflect upon the influences of diversity on their own identity and lived experiences.
Power, Privilege, and You: This workshop introduces students to the concepts of power and privilege. Participants engage in intentional exercises that help them reflect upon their own power and privilege related to various aspects of their identity and lived experiences.
Inclusive ÄÌÌÇÖ±²¥: This workshop for student organizations introduces the concept of inclusivity through the lens of shared and differing identities and encourages students to think about how to make their organizations more inviting and welcoming for all students.
Managing Microaggressions: This workshop is intended to allow students from minoritized and marginalized identities to discuss their experiences with microaggressions in their daily lives. Self-care and self-protective behaviors will also be discussed.
Intermediate Workshops/Trainings
A Deeper Dive Into Race: This workshop focuses on leading participants through a series of exercises considering power and prejudice as the roots of racism while allowing them to reflect on their own race/ethnicity, consider their perceptions of race in society, and participate in a discussion on racism at various levels.
A Deeper Dive Into Class: This workshop focuses on leading participants through a series of exercises considering social class and the impact education has on social mobility while allowing them to reflect on their own capital and consider their perceptions of one’s advantages in society based on their capital.
A Deeper Dive Into Ability: This workshop focuses on leading participants through a series of exercises to consider their own ability statuses and understand more about invisible identities, while also providing the opportunity to learn about and participate in a discussion on how ableism operates on three levels.
A Deeper Dive into Sexual Orientation: This workshop focuses on leading participants through a series of exercises to consider the nuances of sexual orientation, and perceptions of sexual orientation, while also providing the opportunity to learn about and participate in a discussion on how discrimination against the LGBTQIA+ community operates on three levels.
A Deeper Dive into Sex & Gender: This workshop focuses on leading participants through a series of exercises to consider how they walk through the world statuses and understand more about invisible identities, while also providing the opportunity to learn about and participate in a discussion on how ableism operates on three levels.
Advanced Workshops/Trainings
Stand Up for Nova: This workshop walks students through the concepts of inclusivity, allyship, and bystander intervention through interactive activities, research-driven models, case studies and opportunities for reflection and discussion.
