ÄÌÌÇÖ±²¥ Celebrates 16th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Day of Service
VILLANOVA, Pa.– ÄÌÌÇÖ±²¥ University celebrates the legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with its 16th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Day of Service. This event honors Dr. King’s vision of peace and social justice through participation in programs and service opportunities both on and off campus.
ÄÌÌÇÖ±²¥â€™s MLK Jr. Day of Service will take place on Monday, January 16, when people of all ages and backgrounds will come together to improve lives, bridge social barriers and move our nation closer to the "Beloved Community" that Dr. King envisioned. Members of the University community volunteer at ÄÌÌÇÖ±²¥ or throughout the greater Philadelphia area.
This year, volunteers will service over 15 locations throughout the region. Groups will participate in activities that highlight and commemorate Dr. King’s legacy, such as rejuvenating a community hall or church and serving food to those in need.
There will be a send-off for the volunteers at the Jake Nevin Field House on Monday from 7-7:30 a.m. and the event committee members will be recognized during halftime at the ÄÌÌÇÖ±²¥ men’s basketball game on Monday.
Additionally, ÄÌÌÇÖ±²¥ will host a donation drive from January 9-16 to benefit the . Items will be collected in the Talley Center lobby in commemoration of the MLK Jr. Day of Service. Donations will also be collected at the women's basketball game on Saturday, January 14, at 2 p.m., and at the men's basketball game on Monday, January 16, at noon, in the Finneran Pavilion.
