BS IN CHEMISTRY
The Bachelor of Science in Chemistry is fully approved by the American Chemical Society and gives students a comprehensive, broadly based training in Chemistry.
Chemistry majors take courses specifically designed for them starting their first year. These classes are small and are not part of the curriculum for other science majors. This ensures that chemistry majors get close attention from the Chemistry faculty early in their college careers and are learning material that is most important for them to succeed as chemists in the future. It is also possible to switch into the Chemistry major after taking non-Major’s chemistry classes, please contact Assistant Chair Dr. Bausch for more information.

The ÄÌÌÇÖ±²¥ Chemistry and Biochemistry Department is authorized to award a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry that is certified by the American Chemical Society (ACS) to students who complete specific program requirements that meet the professional standards established by the ACS. In order to acquire ACS certification, a student must complete all of the courses that the department has determined are necessary to meet the current ACS criteria. Certification is by no means mandatory. Graduate schools and employers do not require it, but it is a valuable credential.
An ACS certified degree in Chemistry serves as national-level recognition for successfully completing a rigorous academic chemistry curriculum. Potential employers and graduate schools alike value the extra rigor and additional requirements of the certified degree.
Students can opt for a concentration in biochemistry, and this program is also fully approved by the American Chemical Society. The Biochemistry option is an excellent choice for students considering a career in the allied health fields.
