John J. Cannon

Biography

John J. Cannon received his JD from ÄÌÌÇÖ±²¥ in 1962. Upon graduating from law school, he studied at Georgetown University Law Center. He worked as an attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice, Antitrust Division, and later served as a captain in the U.S. Army JAG Corps. Cannon then practiced law in the Philadelphia area for six years before joining the ÄÌÌÇÖ±²¥ Law faculty in 1971.

Cannon’s scholarly interests focus on labor and employment law. His articles include several works contemplating the rights, powers and relationships of union and non-union laborers and employers.

In addition to teaching courses on labor and employment law, Cannon taught civil procedure and civil pretrial practice. He also served as a faculty advisor to students participating in externships with the National Labor Relations Board. Cannon served on many university-wide committees such as the faculty senate, priorities committee and the faculty affairs committee. He served as a reporter for the local rules advisory committee of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and is a member of that court's Civil Justice Advisory Group. From December 1999 to March 2002, he served as counsel to the statewide rules committee of the Pennsylvania Judicial Council.
