HOLIDAY ORNAMENT COMPETITION
In partnership with the College of Engineering Multidisciplinary Design Lab, IIE hosts an annual Holiday Ornament Competition to encourage creativity and spice up the winter season.
Are you a whiz on the sewing machine, an expert 3D designer, or a generally crafty person? Harness your talents and create a winning holiday ornament! Be sure to read all the fine print below:
The design must pay tribute to any holiday (Christmas, Kwanza, Lunar New Year, Halloween, Hannukah, Winter solstice, etc.) or the winter season in some way.
Size
路 While there is no size restriction, ornaments must be able to hang on a tree, be fixed to a wall, be displayed on a windowsill, etc. .
Composition
路 Your ornament can be made of any materials you choose; however, we鈥檙e partial to ornaments that incorporate multiple materials/technologies.
Originality
路 The design must be fully original鈥攏o downloaded or prefabricated components.
Submissions
路 You can submit as an individual or as a team. (No more than four individuals on a team.)
Creativity
路 How creative is the design?
Materials/Technologies
路 How well did the design incorporate different materials and technologies.
Theme
路 How well does the ornament pay tribute to the holiday/winter theme?

Details regarding the 2023 competition will be released in November.
- IIE's Maker Lab (basement of Falvey Library) has two 3D printers, a laser cutter, sewing machines, a Cricut, and lots of crafting supplies (beads, glitter, glues, paper, etc). Stop by anytime M-F between 9am-5pm and Stephen Green can help you with any of our tech.
- The College of Engineering Multidisciplinary Lab (located in Drosdick 105) has 13 3D printers. Stop by anytime M-F between 6am and 2pm and George Simmons can help you with SolidWorks design and 3D printing. Also, the Mechanical Engineering MakerSpace in Drosdick 011 has 6 additional 3D printers.
