CAC Director Receives IEEE “Excellence in Radar Engineering” Award
Moeness Amin, PhD, Director, Center for Advanced Communications, accepts the 2015 IEEE Warren D. White Award for Excellence in Radar Engineering at the IEEE International Radar Conference in May.
As evidenced by his impressive biography, Moeness Amin, PhD, is accustomed to a fair amount of recognition for his expertise and the seminal contributions of ֱ University’s Center for Advanced Communications of which he is director. The past five months, however, have delivered three of the most impressive awards of his career.
In December 2014, Dr. Amin was named the recipient of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) Signal Processing Society’s Technical Achievement Award for his “fundamental contributions to signal processing algorithms for communications, satellite navigations, and radar imaging.” In February 2015, Dr. Amin was elevated to Fellow by the European Association for Signal Processing, a distinction presented annually to a select group of up to four signal processing researchers from around the world. Most recently, Dr. Amin learned that he will be presented with the 2015 IEEE Warren D. White Award for Excellence in Radar Engineering at the IEEE International Radar Conference in May in Arlington, Va.
Administered by the IEEE Aerospace and Electronic System Society, the Warren D. White Award recognizes a radar engineer for “the achievement of a major technical advance, or a series of technical contributions over time, in the art of radar engineering.” The significance and nature of these contributions are expected to be publicly well known to the radar community at large. Dr. Amin has been selected for his “fundamental contributions to urban radar and through the wall radar imaging.”
Typically presented to those working in the defense industry or government research labs, only once since its inception in 1999 has the Warren D. White Award been bestowed on an individual in academia. Dr. Amin is pleased to note, “ֱ University joins the University of Southern California on this very short list.”
