MAJOR IN PHILOSOPHY

The Philosophy department offers interesting courses that help students better understand the world and their place in it. Philosophy courses teach students to analyze difficult texts, to write clearly and precisely, to defend their views with cogent arguments and to take pleasure in the struggle with complex ideas and questions.

EXPLORE THE MAJOR

Students may elect to write a thesis and will be expected to identify a faculty mentor as early as possible in order to establish the precise topic and a calendar of regular meetings. Writing the thesis will require independent research in which you construct a project-specific bibliography, and you will work through regular stages of research and writing. The final thesis will be approximately 25-35 pages in length.
